At 4 weeks of age, kittens are given their first meals of Babycat Dry Food, along with a dish of boiled water.  It is at this time when solid stools form that the mother sez "Nope, not me. I quit!"  So, at the same time food is introduced, a shallow litter box is placed in the nest. 

'YESTERDAY'S NEWS' is the only product I trust for the kittens' introduction to litter.  They do not know which container holds food and which container holds litter.  No matter what it is, it goes into their little mouths.  Clumping clay has caused many choking deaths in kittens.  This product breaks down immediately upon contact with moisture, making it possible for a kitten to spit it out.  I use the "SOFTER TEXTURE" variety to insure this fast breakdown.




But, you will likely not want to keep your kitten using this litter.  I find that it doesn't do much to control odour, and it is difficult to scoop out.  So, as soon as these kittens are "for sure" trained as to what the litter pan is for, I begin to mix in a small portion of FELINE PINE SCOOPABLE litter.  Within a couple of refills, I am using just the scoopable pine litter.  This product does such a fantastic job at controlling odour that I use it exclusively for my Stud Cats. 

NOW, NO PRODUCT IS PERFECT,
SO I WILL WARN YOU THAT THIS SAWDUST BASED LITTER DOES TRACK ONTO YOUR FLOORS AND CARPETS.  RAGDOLLS HAVE TUFTS OF HAIR BETWEEN THEIR TOES, AND THESE CAN CARRY LARGE AMOUNTS OF LITTER OUT OF THE BOX.

CLAY BASED LITTER SEEMS TO  TRACK EQUALLY AS MUCH.

SAWDUST LITTER IS USED AS MULCH AROUND SHRUBS & IN GARDENS. 

I FEEL GOOD THAT THE LITTER FROM MY CATTERY DOES NOT FIND ITS WAY INTO THE GARBAGE LANDFILLS.
